King Sejong believed in the importance of communication and sharing knowledge. He knew making it easy for people to share information is the key to successful society. People shall have equal right for expressing themselves and the same accessibility to information. So he dare to take fight with those who had power in his office to eliminate widespread illiteracy among the people of working class at that time. People working from early morning to late evening wouldn’t have time to spend months or even years only to learn symbol based writing systems (e.g. Chinese, Japanese). So he decided to create ”the” letter system which is time-efficient and easy to learn and read for anyone.

One would admit Korean is very sophisticated language. Though it takes less than one day to learn how to read and write Korean. But surprisingly, using Hangeul you can express +10 000 sounds of natural languages in the world. Hangeul has been acknowledged as the most innovative letter system and registered as intangible asset by UNESCO.
