Dare to speak English B2_Aut 2023

Class 6_13 Dec

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

First of all, many thanks for doing the course. You’ve been a pleasure to teach.
I’ve done my best to make it an interesting, productive course and to encourage you to relax and speak as much English as possible, though 6 x 1½ hour classes is not very long. A few of you didn’t really need my encouragement
But this was just a teaser! The most important thing is that you continue with your English in some capacity, another course, a “fika” together, or using online resources, anything really.
In the meantime, best of luck for the future and have a merry festive season!
Best wishes,
Eddie

                                                                                                                                                                                          Class 5_6 Dec

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

Apologies for the slight delay in sending this newsletter. This is partly because it’s the pre-Xmas peak translation period at SL ($) and partly because of the FU staff party yesterday.
Homework this week is the worksheet with topics for discussion in next week’s class. Everything else is material from class time.
Hope to see you all on Wednesday!
Best wishes,
Eddie
                                                                                                                                                                      Homework

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

Many thanks to those of you who could make it to class yesterday, much appreciated. Hopefully everything will be back to normal next week.
Kristina, I’ve put the email English book in my bag so I won’t forget it next time.
Homework this week is to read the text on The Environment (how can you help protect it?). Look up any words you don’t understand.
All the other attachments are from class time yesterday.
Hope to see you all next week!
Best wishes,
Eddie

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

Many thanks for Thursday and apologies for the slight delay, which was due to a minor emergency.
Hope you’re enjoying the course so far, which seems to be going quite well. Everyone is daring to speak English with each other and I can teach a bit at the same time.
Homework for next week is the Castaway exercise. It would be great if you could prepare a bit before Wednesday or the exercise will fall flat.
Here’s the link to Email English by Paul Emmerson again.
Hope to see most of you next week.
Best wishes,
Eddie

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

Many thanks for yesterday and for “daring to speak”
Maya san, I’m sorry. I didn’t see your email until after the session had ended.
And Tanja made a good point. The most important thing is that you speak English and that what you say is (preferably) correct English. However, some of you are attending for reasons of work, so for example if you’re dealing with a customer, sometimes how you say things can be as important as what you say.
Homework this week is the two vocab exercises, emotions and character. I haven’t quite decided which one to do in class. Probably “character” as it’s quite useful for CVs and for online dating.
BTW the book I forgot to bring to show you is this one Email English by Paul Emmerson.
It’s very useful for writing work emails at work and has a useful glossary of phrases.
Hope to see you all next Wednesday.
                                                                                                                                                                                    Best wishes,
Eddie

Class 1_8 Nov

Hello, hej, bună, ciao and kon’nichiwa everybody,

Many thanks for yesterday evening (or rather, late afternoon). It was very nice meeting you and I hope you’ve all recovered.
Although you’re slightly mixed in terms of English level and your reasons for doing the course in the first place, you have the makings of a very nice group! If we’re all patient and help each other, everything will go well. A 6-week course is as short as it gets but it will give a good start.
                                                                                                                                                                                      For your information:
— I’ve mailed you anonymously because I forgot to ask you if it was OK to share your email addresses
— if you need to contact me, best to mail me at this address topstoreytuition@gmail.com
— also please let me know if can’t come to class or if you’re going to be late
— if you need any advice, feel free to mail me (but only in English )
— next time I’ll show you a few online resources that might help you with your English
— I’ll also bring a couple of English course books for those of you who are studying for work, for example “Email English”.
— as mentioned, I’ll be posting the “weekly newsletters” and any material we do during the course on my blog at https://blogg.folkuniversitetet.nu/stored/. I’ll leave everything up for a year.
— Loredana, aka Loredna, if you come a few minutes early next week, I can show you some nice photos of Visby I took in June this year.
Please also find attached the material from class this week (not much), and the “homework”.
Hope to see you all next Wednesday.
                                                                                                                                                                                    Best wishes,
Eddie
