Lesson 8

Hello everyone.

In our eighth lesson we looked at  ’11B She can pull a plane’ in the textbook. For vocabulary we discussed abilities. For grammar we spoke about how to use ‘can’ to talk about ability.

For homework you should complete the exercises for ‘5 Grammar’ on page 91. After that, you need to read the information for 11B on page 134 and then complete the exercises for 11B on page 135. The you should complete the exercises for 11B on page 155. Finally, you should do the exercises for Unit 11B in the Digital Workbook.

If you would like to do some extra writing homework, you can send me an email about some interesting things that you can do, and things that you can’t do.

Hello everybody.

In our seventh lesson we looked at ’11A She went around the Earth’. For vocabulary we discussed life events. For grammar homework you will read about object pronouns.

Welcome back to the blog.

In our sixth lesson we looked at ’10B Are you working’.

For vocabulary we spoke about how to use place phrases with prepositions. For grammar we looked at the Present Continuous tense for negative sentences and questions.

Hello again.

In our fifth lesson we looked at ’10A I’m sitting in my flat’.

For vocabulary we spoke about the home. For grammar we looked at the Present Continuous tense for positive sentences.

In our fourth lesson we looked at  ‘9B How did you get there?’

For vocabulary we spoke about the seasons and weather. For grammar we looked at the Past Simple tense for  questions.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the course blog!

This blog will help you get the most out of this course. After each lesson I will update it with brief details of what we cover in each lesson, as well as tell you what homework has been given. In future blogs I may also include links to videos or other web pages to read to help your learning.

If you are a new student, I recommend that you read the blogs below from the previous course to see what material has already been covered.

We began our first lesson by introducing ourselves to each other. It was very nice to meet you all. We have students from a variety of different countries and cultures.

The course textbook is called Cambridge English EMPOWER A1 Second Edition Starter Student’s Book  with Digital Pack (Published by Cambridge University Press).

You can buy the book online, or you can buy it at Ferdosi International Bookshop, Odengatan 21, Stockholm.

These books have a code that will let you use the supporting website for the textbook. The code is on the inside cover of your textbook (You need to carefully scratch the grey material to see the code underneath). You will need then need to scan the QR code OR go to http://www.cambridgeone.org to register your textbook. Before you can register your textbook you will need to create an account. CLICK HERE to see instructions for how to create an account.

*PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to ‘Join a Class’ on this website. That is only for Internet Courses. However, I recommend you use the ‘Self Study’ section. Please have a look at this website, it is very helpful.

After our introducions we reviewed the alphabet and pronunciation of the letters, and discussed vowels and consonants.

We then looked at the Unit 7 Review exercises on page 62. If you found that difficult, I recommend that you look at the blogs for Lesson 6 and Lesson 7 from the previous course.

For homework, I asked you to complete the Unit 8 Review exercises on page 70. If you find these exercises difficult, I recommend that you look at the blog for Lesson 8 from the previous course.

You should also practise pronouncing the letters of the alphabet using the table that we made in class.

In our ninth lesson we worked through the exercises for the Unit 3 Review on page 30. If you found this difficult, you should read the Grammar Focus information for Unit 3A and 3B at the back of the book. You can also look at the blog entries for Unit 3A and Unit 3B from the previous course.

For homework I asked you to work through all of the the exercises for the Unit 5 Review on page 46. If you find this difficult, you should read the Grammar Focus information for Unit 5A and 5B at the back of the book. You can also look at the blog entries for lesson 2 (Unit 5A) and lesson 3 (Unit 5B) from this course.

Lesson 2

Welcome back to the blog.

In our second lesson we looked at ‘Unit 5A – There are lots of old houses.’

For grammar we spoke about how we can use the words ‘there is‘ and ‘there are’  to explain that a thing or things exists. I also explained to you how we use ‘a few’ and ‘a lot’. For vocabulary we spoke about common places in a town.

For homework you need  to read the section for 5A on page 122, and do the exercises for 5A on page 123. You also need to do the exercsies for 5A on page 144. I also asked you to complete the exercises for ‘4 LISTENING’ on page 41. Finally, you should do the exercises for Unit 5A in the Digital Workbook.

Today in class we looked at ‘Unit 3A – Do you like fish?’ in the textbook.

For vocabulary we talked about food.

Lesson 3

Welcome back to the course blog!

In our third lesson we looked at ‘2A – It’s a very big city’.

For vocabulary we looked at common adjectives. For grammar we looked at the word ‘it’. We also looked at possessive adjectives.

Hello again.

In our second lesson we looked at ‘1B He’s Italian’. We talked about how we use the verb ‘be’ when we use the subject pronouns ‘He’, ‘She’ and ‘They’. We did this for positive sentences, negative sentences, and questions. We also spoke about.
