Lesson 8
In our eigth lesson our topic was ‘If you could talk to your past self’. We spoke about mistakes and regrets in life, and whther we would change them with the benefit of hindsight. We spoke about learning from mistakes, and how our attitudes have changed towards various aspects of our own lives. We were also asked to discuss our thoughts regarding various hypothetical situations relating to our past, and how we might be tempted tpo change them if we could.

Lesson 7
In our seventh lesson our topic was ‘Genetic Engineering and Ethics’. We spoke about what Genetic Engineering means, and how it is currently used in the modern world. We also discussed how it could potentially be used in the future, and the ethical questions that either already have, or will in the future, be raised. We were also asked to discuss our thoughts regarding various hypothetical situations.

Lesson 6
In our sixth lesson our topic was ‘Freedom of Speech in the Digital Age’. We discussed Freedom of Speech, nad if we thought it should have limits. We did a vocabulary exerise where we matched words relevant to the topic with their definitions. We spoke about the increasing ingluence of social media, and how Freedom of Speech can cause problems if unregulated on these platforms. We alos spoke about if these social media companies have a responsibility for what is said on their platforms. For homework I gave you some related idiom exercises and some vocabulary exercises.

Lesson 5
In our fifth lesson I introduced you to Phonetic symbols and how they can be used to help you with your pronunciation. We then started with our topic of the week:’ Animal Rights’. You all said whether or not you owned a pet, and, if so, why you owned a pet. We discussed if animals had rights, and if different animals had different rights. We then spoke about varius issues relating to animals, and the impact humanity had on their lives. For homework I gave you some vocabulary exercises on common expressions, commonly mispronounced words,, and words related to the natural world.

Hello again.
In our fourth lesson we discussed ‘Changes in Society’. We discussed some major changes in society that have occurred in our lifetimes, and whether they were positive or negative changes. We then did a vocabulary exercise related to societal change. We then discussed some major societal changes throughout history. We finished by predicting how society might change in the future. For homework I gave you some phrasal verb exercises.

Welcome back.
In our third lesson our topic was ‘Telling Lies’. We discussed what it means to lie, common situations where people lie, and why people lie. Then we did some vocabulary and idiom exercises related to lying. We finished by discussing a series of hypothetical situations, and how we would react in those situations.
For homework I gave you some phrasal verb exercises.

Lesson 2
Hello again.
In our second lesson or topic was ‘What does living a good life mean to you?’
We discussed as a group words that we associate with the phrase ‘A good life.’
We then did a vocabulary exercise where we matched relevant words with their definitions. After that you discussed in pairs a series of questions relating to your personal perception of what is necessary for a good life. Next, you discussed the merits of some given philosophical viewpoints. We finished with an exercise where you had to explain to the class your decision in response to 3 different hypothetical life dilemnas.
For homework I gave you some idiom exercises relating to ‘Life and Experience’, and ‘Happiness and sadness’.

Lesson 1
Hello everyone and welcome to the course blog.
In our first lesson our topic was ‘Bribery & Corruption’. This proved to quite a fun topic, with some of you telling some very entertaining stories and offering some interesting perspectives on how opinons on this topic can vary depending on the situation.
For homework I gave you some grammar exercises tfor ‘Prepositions of position and movent’ and ‘Between and among’. We can briefly discuss these at the start of the next class if anybody has any further questions.
